Hungry Redneck Cafe

A sign along Interstate 84 in Idaho caught my eye, right before MP13, The Hungry Redneck Cafe next exit. What a find. Lunch stop on the way back from Caldwell.

Now the restaurant at 2:30 in the afternoon, had 2 truckers, a waitress and a cook.
The menu was interesting enough, but was it gonna be a bust, or true find. A 7 page menu provided alot of standard fare diner-cafe food, but a selection of a couple tasty burgers were ordered.

Our host/cook Traci brought out the food. Friendly enough. Her advise, next time order the Redneck Burger.(2-1/4 lb patties, ham, bacon, grilled onions, mushrooms, swiss & american cheese & an appointment with a cardiologist of your choice)

Mine: Butch Burger. Grilled Onions, Swiss cheese, two 1/4 patties, BBQ sauce. BINGO! Beer battered fries.

Check out the girth of that burger!

Albert: Bacon Cheese Burger, classic.

Sweet Home Chicago

I lived in Chicago as a teenager. Frequently, my folks would drag me to the nieghborhood pizza joint for some classic deep dish Chicago pizza pie.  Names like Pizzario Uno, Pizzario Duo, Lou Malnati, Ginos, Giordanos, Pizanos were classic Chicago hot spots for deep dish pizza.
Introducing Don Manskarelli's Chicago style pizza in Hines, Oregon!
My buddy Jeremy, borrowed me the pans and turned me on to the recipe, so sharing dinner was a no brainer. One for my family, one for his.

Deep Dish Pizza's from Manskarelli's before hitting the 425`oven

Post baking after 30 minutes, lovely, sniff here...........

My piece........so good, just like the Windy City...........

Highlight of the day

Fun filled trip to Vale/Ontario today.

In reverse eating order, 3) Chabelitas Taqueria, 2) No. 1 China Buffet, 3) Goodies Galore (Kolache)

The perfect food: add mustard and it has all the food groups, vegetables, bread, cheese, and pork fat!

Breakfast with Ethan and Emmrie

Casino plays a mean breakfast, and Ethan & Emmrie give it a thumbs up.

Pretty cheap,  not smoky, crowded, or expensive. Krummy ketshup though.

chicken parts

One of the funniest conversations of the day involved chicken. Now we mostly know that chickens have nuggets, gizzards, and breasts, but who would have ever dreamed that one might ask, "do chickens have thighs"? Hmmmm. A question worth pondering.

Everyone likes a holiday

A very exciting insider tip this morning, led me to discover that today, my friends, is National French Fry Day! Hip Hip Hooray!
Now this should be cause for celebration all throughout food land.
Although easily known as french frys around the world, the British call them chips. How dumb.
Oh, and yes, they have no connection to France.........remember the push for Freedom Frys?

So go ahead, celebrate the day with a nice order of French Fry's!

Where there's a going away party, there is food.

Thanks to my good buddy Justin for accepting a job in Sandy, OR. lunch was an agenda item today. Glory Days is one of the favorite pizza joints in town. They have a mighty fine salad bar on top of that. Lunch for me, daily lunch special of a small pizza and salad bar trip.
A nice crowd for the going away party, but who cares about that. Lets talk about food!

Some people come hungry, like Kevin here, who came pretty close to eating his fingers as he downed one bodacious sub!

Now the dispatchers came as a big clan and one tall unnamed dispatcher showing proper eating etiquette saves her gum for later, here sharing a spot with a container of cranberries.

And the best part of lunch at Glory Days, free ice cream, at least thats what these two goofs said...... one really enjoys ice cream, the other must have a case of lactose intolerance coming on.

Room 405

OK, ok, I might have miscalculated the effects of a full stomach reacting to a walk up the stairs to room #405. 405, forth floor, 8 sets of stairs, computer, suitcase, 6 lbs of Chinese buffet.........what a load.

I needed a bottle of oxygen and a cold shower.

Next time the elevator. But hey, I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.

Ontario, OR. 97914

You know I love a Chinese buffet, who doesn't? Well Ontario Oregon, has, nestled amongst the Mexican restaurants, a Chinese Buffet, near Walmart.
#1 China Buffet. My question is can you claim to be #1 if there is no #2 to compete with? Food is ok, tough tonight, Sunday, I showed up at 8:30 pm, a few of the trays looked like they had been 'sitting' awhile. Wow, they are open till 10:30 pm. Who eats Chinese buffet at 10:30 on Sunday? Drunks and the homeless, I suppose.

The Oasis, Juntura, Oregon, 97911

Today had the best of two worlds, eating and riding the Harley to go eat. What a great day.

Destination with the group of Desert Riders was the Oasis Cafe in Juntura, Oregon.

Now why they call it the oasis is somewhat of a mystery. My guess is its halfway between Timbuktu (Vale) and Bum-F**k-Egypt (Burns). More likely is the treed and shaded wide spot in the road.

Any how, we slid 4 tables together at the restaurant and made room for all 15 of us. Now the food is averagely good, but the piles of home cut fries is incredible. Massive, humongous, you get the drift.

The BBQ song

Some folks sing about food. I'm digging this one.......a review of Southern USA BBQ. According to the song, for us Yankee's BBQ is a verb.

B-B-Q

Smoking Pit BBQ sets up in the B&B parking lot every thursday to serve lunch. I have been there the last two weeks seeking to order smoked 1/2 chicken lunches, but have been unsucessful in getting there in time or when they hadn't run out.
Francis promises this week he is holding a chicken for me. I arrive at 12:05, joined a short crowd at the ordering window and he leans out the cook shack announcing "I hope nobody else needs chicken", checking for a reaction from me.
I stood there stone cold-faced staring him eye to eye. He flinched first, and  announced he had saved me chicken this day. Add cowboy beans, a side of BBQ sauce and for $8 bucks my 1/2 chicken made for a nice tasty lunch. Finally, mission accomplished.

4th of july report on the 5th

What can I say, 750 hot dogs served at the Free hot dog feed at Hines Park as part of the 1st annual Desert Riders 4th of July parade & festivities at Hines Park.
My job: keeping the ketsup, mustard and relesh stocked, and handing out Lays potato chips packs again & again & again. Awesome work if you can get it.

This town is anti parade

Just returned from a disappointing trip to both grocery stores in town and there is NO bulk candy to be found. How in Gods name will we be able to throw candy to the kids in the 4th of July parade??

Like faking out my dog with the tennis ball, I will simply fake throw candy and see if all the youngins flinch!
